Installing Scenery in Flight Simulator 5

Installing scenery is easy to do.

Start by opening Windows Explorer, or the file manager if you are still using Windows 3.1. Under your FlightSim\scenery folder, create a new folder for each area you are going to create.

After that, you must create another subfolder called scenery.
While you can call the folder whatever you wish, the subfolder must be called "scenery." If you call it anything else, it will not work.

Start Flight Simulator

Select the Scenery, and then Scenery Library. It will display this box:

Click "OK" and it will bring up the next screen:

Click on "Scenery Area Files" and the next box will come up:

To add a new area, click on "Add." To edit an existig area, click on "Edit." The following screen will show up:

Under the "Scenery Area" box, you must type the path to the folder where your scenery is located. For example:

C:\FLTSIM5\SCENERY\PHOENIX\SCENERY\*.BGL

Remember that FlightSim5 was created for DOS, and so you have to use the old-style 8 character file names.

For "Scenery Area Type," almost all scenery goes under the local category.

Choose a number for your scenery area, and be sure to choose the active box.

Click OK until you are back in FlightSim, and your scenery should now be visible.
