As night fell, and March 30, 2003 turned into March 31, the Mayor of Chicago took advantage of the cover of darkness to have heavy equipment move into Meigs Field and carve large X's into the runway, thereby rendering the airport unusable. This scenery recreates those X's and places equipment around the runway. Meigs Field has been the default airport in Flight Simulator sinse it was first released in 1978, and has won a special place in the hearts of flight simulator enthusiasts around the world. We join in our regret that the airport was closed, as well as the manner in which it was done.
