flightsim.andyjohnston.net Reverse Thrust in FS-2000/2002 September 15, 2000

Many users of Flight Simulator 2000 have found that there is a problem when trying to use the thrust reversers. Instead of going into full reverse, they will tend to strat spooling up and then cutting back to idle, so they never slow the aircraft the way that they should.

The cause of the problem is that FS-2000 gets conflicting signals from the joystick, which is telling the program to keep the throttle at idle, and the keyboard, which tells it to reverse.

To this point, Flight Simmers have come up with two solutions:

Solution One

Recalibrate your joystick. But when it comes time to calibrate the throttle, keep it just a touch above the idle position. This will help force the throttle down a little further when it is brought to neutral.

Solution Two

The second solution requires a small bit more effort, but is more effective.

Fly the approach as you usually would. Once the aircraft is firmly on the ground and aligned with the centre lign, press the "K" key.

This will deactivate the joystick. Once the joystick isn't sending a signal anymore, there can't be a conflict.

If the plane drifts away from the centre lign, you can easily correct using the keyboard rudder controls, Zero for left and Enter for right (both on the keypad.) Flying an aircraft with the keyboard is almost impossible, but staying on the lign requires only a tiny bit of practice.

Once your plane has slowed enough, press "K" again to turn the joystick back on, and taxi to the gate to unload your passengers.
