One of the things that keeps our hobby interesting is the constant creation of new material.

flightsim.andyjohnston.net wishes to pay tribute to those who have gone to great lengths to create the utilities that give us the great scenery we have become accustomed to.

These people have put amazing amounts of time and effort into their projects, without expecting to be reimbursed in any way.

We now take this opportunity to thank some of FlightSim's most prolific freeware designers and their creations.

Airport
The product of a team led by Pascal Meziat, Airport is among the most famous of all flightsim utilities. Mr. Meziat oversaw development up until the release of version 2.10
Airport 2.6
The continuation of the work done by the original Airport team has been headed up by Tom Hiscox. Though he received a credit in previous versions of Airport, he is better known for his constant upgrades to version 2.6, always expanding its capabilities.
Flight Simulator Scenery Creator
The work of Derek Leung, FSSC has become an alternative to Airport. Making use of a similar interface to minimize the learning curve, FSSC has the potential to overcome the notion of it being "New Kid on the Block."
SCASM
The most essential tool for all FlightSim designers is the work of Manfred Moldenhauer. The coding that forms SCASM is what allows programs like Airport to work. It has also found its way into commercial design program like Abacus's Airport & Scenery Designer and Flight Simulator Design Studio.
Visual Object Designer
Raphael Garcia Sanchez is another name that most designers know. Creator of the various versions of Visual Object Designer (VOD,) Dynamic Object Designer (DOD,) the essential VOD textures, and the new NOVA, he allowed users to create their own items of interest. Although VOD doesn't have the same capabilities as FSDS, its user-friendly simplicity and its freeware status guarantee that it will remain an integral part of any designer's arsenal for a long time to come.
